Water – The Fountain Of Youth
The Fountain Of Youth
Psychology
Celebrities, models, movie stars, media and advertisement; every day you are bombarded with visuals of beautiful people. This, according to psychologists, has an enormous impact on your self image. The way you think how you should look, expectations are high. You know the phrases real beauty is on the inside or looks aren’t everything. And they are true. But there’s a but. You can’t use that statement to not take care of yourself. I believe that with a little effort you can make big changes in how you look.
The Secret Everybody Knows
Water
And it is not just models who say water is the way to go. Professional athletes, business men, dietists and doctors join the ranks. Your body is for the most part water. For adults male/female it’s averaged at 63%/52%. The female percentage is a bit lower due to a higher body fat percentage. If you look at the amount of water in your brains and skin, percentages are 70% and 80% even. To keep well hydrated means these organs stay optimal which results in better skin and less headaches, more energy and a better mood.
“Water is the driving force of all nature” - Leonardo da Vinci
So How Much Water Do I Need? Water is essential to help the body flush out toxins, aid in cellular renewal and keeps bodily functions well oiled. There are some factors that influence the amount needed, like climate, gender, age, diet and activity for instance. But to generalize your body needs about 2,6 liters of water a day. Think that’s high? Okay, you can deduct a bit for water obtained from food. Rule of thumb, drink at least 2 liters per day.If you eat a lot of salts or proteins, you definitely need to drink more. At least 2 liters is my recommendation. The hard part is drinking it maybe. I only drink water, milk and sometimes tea. But most people drinks soft drinks, juices or coffee, all day long. You don’t need that. Soft drinks are full of sugars, sweeteners or other chemicals. Juices are high in sugar, for instance apple juice is not as healthy as it sounds. If you are trying to lose weight for instance, a glass of 250ml cola contains 100 kcal. Drink 8 glasses per day and you almost hit half of the recommended daily caloric intake for women.
Science
Fewer headaches, better digestion, reduce the signs of aging, clearer skin, more energetic, better toxins excretion, higher productivity, reduced cravings. All benefits attributed to drinking plenty of water.
You look better, you feel better. It is cheap, everybody can do it. Water is one of the easiest ways to take great care of your body. Stop searching for the fountain of youth; it is already within your reach.
